Most Anticipated Fall Films

*Click on posters to see trailers*

 Anticipation Level: 5

Catfish: Catfish is the latest sensation to hit screens this fall. The story is a simple one; a man named Nev meets a girl over Facebook and befriends her and her various family members. He decides to visit the family, but what his friends and him find there wasn't what they expected. Part mystery/part documentary/part social commentary. The film is a poignant reminder of the times we live in.
 Anticipation Level: 5
The Social Network: Looking to be David Fincher’s return to form, after the disappointing “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is the Social Network; A film detailing the story of the founders of Facebook. I don’t expect the story to be factual, just one side of the story, but I do expect high drama.
Anticipation Level: 4
Jackass 3-D: Knoxville and the boys return with their first foray into the third dimension. The Jackass series has brought me vast amounts of laughter and the first two films are some of the best theatrical experiences I’ve ever had. Count me in.
Anticipation Level: 3
Paranormal Activity 2: There’s not much known about Paranormal Activity 2, even after 2 trailers, but I was a big fan of the first one. That film creeps me out on many levels. It doesn’t hold a candle to The Blair Witch Project because there’s no value in viewing the film a second time. But it was still highly effective and the sequel looks to be more of the same but on a slighter larger scale.
 Anticipation Level: 3
127 Hours: Mr. Danny Boyle has built himself quite the filmography with Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later, Millions and Sunshine. He has shown such versatility in his filmmaking that few directors can match. In his latest film, 127 Hours, James Franco stars as a mountain climber trapped under a boulder and must to resort to unimaginable things. Based on a true story.
 Anticipation Level: 3
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One: The Harry Potter franchise is near and dear to my heart. I’ve read the entire series and have eagerly awaited each film adaptation. Ever since the third Potter film, Azkaban, the series has gotten more and more away from the source material, but the movies still work on a film level. I’ll be there opening night despite the franchises shortcomings.
 Anticipation Level: 3
Black Swan: Darren Aronofsky is my favorite director working today. I feel his talent as a filmmaker is just growing more and more with each film. Black Swan is his follow up to The Wrestler and is receiving high praise from the festival circuit. The film centers on rival ballerinas played by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.
 Anticipation Level: 4
Somewhere: Indie favorite, Sofia Copolla returns to the big screen with her film Somewhere. It stars Stephen Dorff as a Hollywood actor who gets a surprise visit from his 11-year old daughter. Sofia’s Lost in Translation had a quiet brilliance to it backed by strong performances from Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson. This looks to be more of the same, which is a very good thing for cinema.
